A number of AFIO members including President Gene Poteat were identified by HUMINT assets as participants on the maiden voyage of SpyCruise™ (The Centre for Counterintelligence and Security Studies: www.cicentre.com). Passengers boarded the Regal Empress at Port Manatee on the west coast of central Florida on Sunday, March 10, 2002. The ship pulled away from the dock mid-afternoon, but did not follow the previously announced itinerary. SpyCruise spokespeople neither confirmed nor denied speculations that the published itinerary had been a deliberate disinformation action motivated by security concerns.
